The way of working hasn`t changed at all. To play with MAME Plus!, you have to continue using the ROMs of the classic games (and not so classic) that you want to emulate on your PC. The ROMs have to be searched and downloaded separately, and come compressed in 7z format. You can decompress them with b>WinRAR or other compressors compatible with this format.
